CO2 Laser Treatment

CO2 laser treatments are the gold standard in skin resurfacing, offering unparalleled results when it comes to tightening, smoothing, and rejuvenating the skin. While this advanced treatment does come with some downtime, the outcomes—particularly in improving skin texture and tone—are worth it. The CO2 laser is designed to target deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting skin renewal for a more youthful, radiant appearance.

This treatment is effective for addressing a wide range of skin concerns, including:

    •    Deep wrinkles
    •    Fine lines
    •    Acne scars
    •    Crepey skin
    •    Scarring
    •    Stretch marks
    •    Skin laxity (looseness or sagging)
    •    Skin discoloration (sun damage, age spots, hyperpigmentation)

For optimal results, 1-3 treatments are typically recommended depending on your skin concerns, the treatment area, and your provider’s advice. The CO2 laser can be used on various areas of the body, including the face, neck, and body, to improve overall skin quality.

You’ll notice initial improvements 30 days post-treatment, with continued skin renewal for up to 3 months as collagen remodeling occurs.

Prior to Your Treatment

To ensure the best outcome, it’s important to follow these pre-treatment guidelines:
    •    Avoid retinols, and active ingredients like glycolic acid or salicylic acid for at least one week before treatment.
    •    Limit sun exposure and avoid tanning beds for one week leading up to your treatment to reduce the risk of complications and ensure your skin is in the best condition for the laser.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

During your treatment, you can expect mild discomfort, though we apply topical numbing cream to ensure you’re comfortable. Additionally, cryotherapy (cold therapy) will be used during the treatment to cool and soothe the skin, minimizing any discomfort and helping to distract from the heat of the laser.

For full-face treatments, the procedure typically takes around 20-30 minutes.

After the treatment

Your skin will likely experience mild to moderate redness, swelling, and a warm, sunburn-like sensation, which may last for several hours or up to a few days, depending on the intensity of your treatment. In more aggressive treatments, the recovery period may be slightly longer. A cold compress can provide relief and comfort during this time.

Other common post-treatment reactions include skin irritation, itching, and general sensitivity, which may last 3 days or longer.

Results from CO2 laser treatments are both immediate and progressive. You’ll begin to see improvements as early as 30 days after your treatment, but the full benefits will continue to develop over the next few months. For the best results, additional treatments may be required, but each session will bring you closer to your ideal skin goals.

Additional Notes

    •    Downtime: Expect some downtime depending on the intensity of the treatment, but the results are well worth it.
    •    Multiple treatments: Depending on your skin’s condition, a series of treatments may be recommended to achieve your desired results.

If you have any questions or concerns, your provider will be happy to walk you through the process and offer guidance to ensure the best possible outcome.
